Oral Surgery in Tomball

Although our office offers a wide range of preventive and restorative dentistry services so you can enjoy the benefits of excellent oral health, there are times when surgical care is necessary. Most dentists need to refer their patients to a nearby oral surgeon for these types of procedures. However, in Tomball, oral surgery is conveniently available at your dentist’s office. Dr. Geer has received advanced training and experience in oral surgery with an emphasis on difficult extractions and removal of impacted third molars. In addition, he is capable of completing all phases of dental implant restorations.

Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Ideally, Dr. Geer and his team work to help each patient retain all of their teeth for their entire lives. However, wisdom teeth are usually the exception to this rule. Also called third molars, these teeth are located at the rear of your mouth behind all of your other teeth. In most people, these teeth tend to be quite large and there is rarely room for them along either the upper or lower arch. Furthermore, wisdom teeth can be difficult to keep clean and therefore are more likely to cause infection, gum disease and tooth decay. Removal ensures a healthier mouth and prevents misalignment due to pressure from wisdom teeth.

Dr. Geer can extract your wisdom teeth whether they are erupted or impacted. Once anesthesia has been administered, Dr. Geer opens gum tissue and bone in order to expose the tooth. The tooth is removed, and a few stitches are usually placed to close the site and help healing.

Dental Implants

Receiving dental implants is another procedure Dr. Geer performs that requires oral surgery. There are two phases involved in the placement of dental implants: embedding the implant and attaching the tooth restoration. To secure the implant, Dr. Geer makes a small incision in your gum tissue and then anchors the implant in exposed bone beneath the open socket of a missing tooth. After a few months of healing, you’ll return to your oral surgeon in Tomball so he can perform another minor surgical procedure in order to attach an abutment that will connect your implant to the tooth restoration. The implant process is completed once you have a porcelain crown, bridge or fixed denture in place that substitute for your missing teeth.
