You have a cavity, and it needs to be filled. But, you think,\nyou feel no pain. Is a filling really necessary? Is it really that big of\nproblem this soon? Could you get by without having it filled? Well, not\naddressing a dental cavity early on can have serious consequences down the\nroad. Keep reading to learn about six potential outcomes from not treating a\ncavity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Severe Pain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although your cavity may be small now, the decay can\npenetrate deeper into the tooth. Once it has reached the pulp, or the center of\nthe tooth, you can experience a lot of pain. That\u2019s because your tooth\u2019s nerves\nare housed in the pulp, and they can communicate discomfort to your brain very\nstrongly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cavities in More Teeth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Cavities are caused by bacteria, and bacteria can continue\nto grow and spread and even transfer from tooth to tooth. If you don\u2019t resolve\nyour cavity quickly, you could find decay on multiple teeth instead of just\none.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More Extensive (and Expensive) Treatment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The longer you wait to have your cavity filled, the more\ndamage the cavity can cause in your tooth. While it requires only a small\nfilling procedure now, it could take a root canal or more intensive treatment\nto fix later. This treatment can be not just more complicated but also more\nexpensive. You can save yourself a lot of time and money by fixing your cavity\nsooner rather than later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Oral Infection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a chance that you won\u2019t feel pain even as the\ninfection spreads to the pulp of your tooth, but you may feel a sharp jolt of\npain as it affects other areas of your mouth. As a result, the entire side of\nyour face can become swollen because of the infection. This is particularly\nworrisome if an oral infection happens in your child, and it could require a\ntrip to the emergency room. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tooth Loss<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although used as a last resort, extraction is a possibility.\nIf the decay has overcome the tooth, there won\u2019t be enough tooth structure to\nsupport a filling or dental crown. Postponing treatment could mean that your\nentire tooth may be need to come out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Brain Infection or Death<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When your suffer an oral infection, there is a risk,\nespecially for young children, that it could spread to your brain. Also, in the\npast, untreated oral infections have led to death in some cases. If you or your\nchild has facial swelling, you should visit the emergency room immediately. But\nthe easiest way to avoid this potentially life-threatening situation is to\ntreat the cavity as soon as your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomballdentist.com\/about-us.html\">dentist<\/a> finds it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the end, it is worth the time, effort, and money to fix a\nsmall cavity now than to put it off until later. By then you could experience\none or more of these unpleasant results.
